Mr. Alfred Moi Jamiru took up office as Deputy Minister of Local Government and community Affairs in August, 2023. As Deputy Minister, he was tasked with the responsibility to assist and support the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs in overseeing service delivery in twenty-two Local Councils and one hundred and ninety chiefdoms across the country, while coordinating Ministry’s activities with the Regional Ministers and Provincial Administration.
As Deputy Minister, his mandate is to serve as Chief Adviser, assist the Minister in providing Political Leadership and supervisory role for decentralization and local governance, which include provision of policy oversight and monitoring local councils and chiefdom administration in Sierra Leone. Prior to his appointment, Deputy Minister Jamiru served as Assistant Director, Metro Plus Health.
Insurance Company in New York City, United States of America. He also served as National Pillar Lead for Social Mobilization at the National COVID 19 Emergency Response Center, (NaCOVERC), during the Corona virus outbreak in Sierra Leone. Deputy Minister Jamiru lived and worked in the United States for over two decades and served in various professional capacities. In 2014, he led a group of Sierra Leoneans, and got support of medical and hospital supplies which was shipped to Sierra Leone to aid the fight against the Ebola virus outbreak in Sierra Leone. As a Marketing and Community Relations professional, Mr. Jamiru holds over twenty (20) years’ experience in the Human Services and Healthcare Insurance industry. He provided strategic and leadership experience to the Indiana State Department of Health Refugee Program and the New York City Health and Hospital Systems, one of the largest Municipal hospitals in the United States. He pursued undergraduate studies at Purdue University in the State of Indiana, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision and completed Post- graduate studies at Indiana Wesleyan University, and earned a M. Sc. degree in Organizational Management in the United States of America. Mr. Jamiru also holds qualifications in various fields of studies including Health Insurance management and Marketing. With his passion for Community development, Mr. Jamiru has provided leadership to various organizations, including the Tegloma Federation Organization in the United States, where he served as Chairman of Federation Administration, the Sierra Leone People’s Party USA Branch and the Asian Community Partnership. He currently leads the ‘Leave No Village Behind’ organization that is engaged in providing Solar Street Lights to Villages in eastern Sierra Leone. His hobbies include traveling, cooking and reading.
