District Stakeholders Hold Roundtable Dialogue on Gender in One Health in Kambia District.

Kambia District, Sierra Leone A District Stakeholders Roundtable Dialogue on Gender in One Health was successfully held in Kambia District with support from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), in partnership with the National Public Health Agency (NPHA), the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS), Gender in One Health Program, line Ministries and Agencies.

The dialogue brought together key district stakeholders, including representatives from the health sector, agriculture, environment, and community-based organizations, to strengthen collaboration and promote a gender-responsive approach to public health and disease prevention.

The main objectives of the dialogue were to:

  1. Improve outbreak detection and response capacity
  2. Enhance program effectiveness through multi-sectoral coordination; and
  3. Promote gender equity and empowerment within the One Health framework.

Speaking during the event, facilitators Madam Josetta A. O’Rielle-Campbell from the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs Dec Sec emphasized that “One Health is the reality we live every day.” The approach recognizes that the health of people, animals, and the environment are deeply interconnected. Integrating gender perspectives into One Health programming ensures that women and men are equally engaged in disease surveillance, environmental protection, and community resilience efforts.

The Kambia District dialogue followed by a Radio talk show program on Radio Kolenten forms part of a broader national effort to build inclusive systems that protect public health, ensure food security, and promote environmental sustainability.
