6th Floor, Youyi Building, Freetown. 18 April 2025 – The consultant for the reversion of the Local Court to the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Flord Davis, has updated the leadership of the Local Government Ministry and the Steering Committee Members on the different activities that he will undertake in the process of putting documents together on the reversion of the Local Courts.
According to him, phase 1 is the research and planning stage which would take place within the first and second weeks, adding that it is at this stage he would identify the different stakeholders, and develop consultation methods, amongst other things. He said phase 2 is the expert and institutional consultation stage which is expected to run within weeks 3 to 4. He also said phase 3 deals with public consultation and stakeholder engagement. He continued that it is after this stage that the report preparation and validation would commence which will eventually lead to the final stage of submission and approval of the final proposal by the Ministry.
After the presentation, the Acting Minister of the Ministry of Local Government, Alfred Moi Jamiru, the Permanent Secretary, Thomas B. Lansana, the Director of Local Government, Brima Newman Combey, and both members of the Steering Committee made meaningful comments and asked relevant questions on what the consultant presented.
It was agreed that the leadership of the Ministry, a cross-section of the stakeholders and the consultant visit the regions to engage various community stakeholders to get their views on the reversion process. On that note, the team will be visiting Southern and Eastern provinces next week and subsequently visit the Northern and Nort-Western Regions in the week that follows.
